Behavior Expectations
Our classroom environment should offer students a positive, caring, secure environment in which to learn. Students should feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes without the fear of ridicule.
Our classroom will use a Raffle/Marble reward system to encourage smart choices and initiative. Students will have opportunities throughout each week to earn raffle tickets for a weekly drawing (gift cards, sweet treats, etc). Additionally, the classroom as a whole will have opportunities to earn marbles toward classroom rewards (extra recess, Read & Feed, etc.).
Electronic Devices
Students may bring in personal electronic devices such as iPads, Nooks, Kindles, and other tablets for school work use. However, if a student is using electronics to play games or take focus away from learning, he or she will be asked to leave these items at home. Additionally, the student is fully responsible for the safety and care of these items. Teachers and the school can not be held responsible for loss, theft, or breakage.
Grading
Students will be given percentage grades on some assignments and will receive proficiency ratings to show their progress towards the state standards on the district-wide progress report. The proficiency scale will be:
4 – Advanced: Student consistently and independently exceeds grade level expectations.
3 – Proficient: Student consistently and independently meets grade level standards.
2 – Partially Proficient: Student progress toward grade level standards is inconsistent.
1 – Emerging: Student needs more time and support to meet grade level standards.
Homework
Homework will be assigned on Mondays and due Thursdays. Each child will use a student planner to record assignments, and for the first trimester of school, parents are asked to sign the child’s planner daily. Your signature represents your acknowledgement that you've reviewed the assignments, homework, and special announcements with your child.
Homework will include:
Independent Reading: 20-25 minutes per night
Book Projects: Students may be assigned a book project each trimester. Time spent on this project will count toward your Independent Reading time.
Math: Your math teacher will assign your math homework.
Spelling/Vocabulary: Weekly spelling lists will be distributed on Mondays, and spelling tests will be given on Thursdays. Wordly Wise quizzes will be given every other week, usually on Thursdays or Fridays.
Reading Comprehension/Study Skills: Weekly assignments will go home on Monday and will be due Thursday.
Homework is due Thursday morning. Homework turned in after the morning collection will be considered late.
Late Work
Parents will be informed of work that is not completed or turned in on time. The teacher will fill out a form to send home in your child’s planner for you to sign. It is the student’s responsibility to show you the form.
Birthday Treats
CHVE is promoting wellness and safety; therefore, we will no longer have edible birthday treats. However, non-food birthday treats are welcome!
